A married South Florida couple accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl over several months last year have been arrested after fleeing Miami, police said Wednesday.

Edwin Vasquez Vasquez, 49, and Yulian Garcia Castro, 39, were apprehended in Lehigh Acres by U.S. Marshals.

Alleged abuse spanning months

According to an arrest warrant, the alleged sexual battery occurred between July and December 2023, but was not reported to Miami Police until November 2024.

The victim, who met the couple at church, told investigators that she was subjected to multiple instances of abuse, including during sleepovers at the couple's home.

In one instance, the warrant alleges Castro kissed and fondled the girl while she slept in the couple's bed with them and their children.

In another incident, Vasquez allegedly attempted to sexually assault her in the backseat of their car.

The victim told investigators that both Vasquez and Castro sexually abused her during a sleepover on Dec. 25 and 26.

Police seek potential additional victims

Miami Police spokesman Officer Mike Vega said, "It is something that is sickening and it is something that is inconceivable that two adults could do this to a 13-year-old girl."

Vega said the victim was afraid to come forward until she finally spoke to her parents.

Vega added that the couple allegedly directed each other to abuse the girl.

"On one occasion the wife tells the husband to kiss her and in another case to lift up her dress so he can touch her. In another instance she actually participated while the husband was kissing and touching her," Vega said.

Vasquez and Castro face multiple charges, including sexual battery, lewd and lascivious molestation and lewd and lascivious conduct.

Police believe there may be additional victims and urge anyone with information to contact the Miami Police Special Victims Unit at (305) 603-6300.
