3 in custody after pursuit with assault with deadly weapon on police officer suspect in South Bay
Los Angeles Police Department officers were in pursuit of a suspect who was wanted for alleged assault with a deadly weapon on an officer on Wednesday night.
The chase was initiated in the Koreatown area near an anti-ICE protest, according to LAPD officials.
While the suspect fled from police, including California Highway Patrol officers who took over the chase as it continued on the 405 Freeway, they could be seen driving at speeds over 80 miles per hour on surface streets in Hawthorne and Inglewood.
At around 8:15 p.m., the suspect attempted to pull into an alleyway at Atkinson Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard, but missed the turn. They began to reverse the car and collided with the front end of a CHP cruiser that was following. The driver then continued to speed away.
Despite CHP taking the lead, several LAPD patrol cars could be seen following closely behind with SKYCAL over the incident.
It's unclear exactly what prompted the officers to begin the chase.
At around 11:20 p.m., police reported that three people were arrested after the pursuit finally came to an end in Inglewood.
Police also arrested another individual after they allegedly pointed a laser at a police helicopter.
